Learn how improvements to the Java platform, APIs and the Java language will help you develop innovative applications using parallel programming, integration with other languages and tools. Watch three webinar sessions from the April edition of Virtual Technology Summit.

Down-to-Earth Microservices with Java EE: Reza Rahman explores microservices using a simple but representative example using Java EE. You'll see how the Java EE programming model and APIs like JAX-RS, WebSocket, JSON-P, Bean Validation, CDI, JPA, EJB 3, JMS 2 and JTA align with the concept of microservices.

Thinking Beyond ORM in JPA:  Patrycja Wegrzynowicz discusses native-query support in JPA along with stored procedures and result set mappings in JPA 2.1. The code samples illustrate the details of the API, highlighting their strengths and weaknesses. the analysis reveals applicable use cases and most popular approaches. The summary provides guidelines on how and when to utilize native queries.

Visualizing Data in the Cloud with Oracle JET: Oracle JET is a free and open source toolkit, providing a solid basis for enterprise JavaScript applications, including built-in solutions for accessibility, modularity, and data visualization. In this code-driven session, Geertjan Wielenga presents everything you need to know to create maintainable enterprise applications in JavaScript!

Oracle JET and NetBeans IDE in Japan

I spent the first half of this week in Tokyo. I had never been there before and it was an excellent time, especially getting to know local Oracle colleagues and, of course, seeing parts of the city and culture.

The main focus of my trip was to speak at Java Day Tokyo, which was on Tuesday, May 24. I participated in the keynote, where I demoed the powerful new Java 9 tools in NetBeans IDE for working with Jigsaw modules, as well as Oracle JET and Application Builder Cloud Service. Together with that, I did two sessions, one on Oracle JET and one on NetBeans IDE, while I also spent some time at the Oracle JET booth doing small demos with passersby.

If I understand these Tweets correctly, attendees were impressed by JavaScript support, and other tools, in NetBeans IDE!

Here's a pic of me talking about Oracle JET:

And here I am showing how NetBeans IDE interacts with the Chrome browser via the NetBeans Chome Connector plugin:

I also met quite some Oracle partners and customers in Tokyo, introducing Oracle JET to them, together with the tools for creating enterprise JavaScript applications with NetBeans IDE.

It was a great time in Tokyo, thanks to all the nice people I met there!

OSB 12c – Database Polling using DB adapter by Vivek Garg

clip_image001Oracle introduced couple of new features in 12c version which is recently launched. For OSB, the major shift that we saw in 12c is that now we can use Jdeveloper to do the development which we use to do through OEPE (Eclipse). With that change, we can leverage the existing technology adapter in OSB as well which we use to have in SOA. In OSB 11g version, in case of Database interaction, we use to create DB adapter in Jdeveloper and later import all required files to OEPE and generate required services from that, but in this new version-12c as we development in Jdeveloper itself so we need not to follow same steps again, we can add the DB adapter directly in OSB project and do required operations.

In this post, we show you how to use DB adapter in OSB project. For that we have created a table in database, we poll the data from that table and write that information to one file.

First of all we need to create a new OSB project, so first create a new project and then in composite.xml file, right click on proxy service lane, choose “Insert Adapters” and select Database to add DB adapter.

Provide name to adapter and click on next. In next window, choose DB connection (In our case it is local as we read the data from local table) and click on browse button to select the outbound connection pool created earlier for DB adapter. Read the complete article here.

Friday Spotlight: Video - Deploying and Upgrading OpenStack with Docker

$

OpenStack is notoriously complex to deploy and update. Traditional method of using RPMs is extremely unreliable due to inter-dependencies resulting into delays in deployment and failures in update. Any change in any of the RPMs may can adversely impact other RPMs and the deployment risks failures and delays.

Leveraging OpenStack upstream Kolla project, Oracle has transformed the deployment. OpenStack services are deployed as micro-services in docker containers which are fully independent from each other. Using the Ansible deployment tool, any of the containers can be changed or replaced easily without impacting other containers.

In this video during OpenStack Day in Australia, Avi Miller, Oracle Product Management Director covers the details of the ACTUAL EXPERIENCE with Oracle OpenStack distribution using Docker containers

Watch this great video for insight into OpenStack implementation.
