Not to start a religious war, but white space in your code can cause havoc when you’re doing code compares and versioning. Web-based content in Oracle E-Business Suite 12 runs on the Oracle Application Framework (OAF or "OA Framework") user interface libraries and infrastructure.   Since the release of Oracle E-Business Suite 12.2 in 2013, we have released several cumulative updates to Oracle Application Framework to fix performance, security, and stability issues.

These updates are provided in cumulative Release Update Packs, and cumulative Bundle Patches that can be applied on top of the Release Update Pack. "Cumulative" means that the latest RUP or Bundle Patch contains everything released earlier.

The latest OAF update for EBS 12.2.5 is now available:

EBS 12.2.5 Bundle Patch 5 download patch

Where is the documentation for this update?

Instructions for installing this OAF Release Update Pack are here:

Who should apply this patch?

All EBS 12.2.5 users should apply this patch.  Future OAF patches for EBS 12.2.5 will require this patch as a prerequisite.

What's new in this update?

This bundle patch is cumulative: it includes all fixes released in previous EBS 12.2.5 bundle patches.

This latest bundle patch includes new fixes for the following critical issues:

    • The getIndexedChild API throws an exception when all the subtabs are hidden in the subtab layout.
    • Adding new rows to the scroll mode table with more than 30 records leads to UI distortion and table becomes empty.
    • The value in Table cells with style OraTableCellNumber and OraTableTotalNumber is left aligned.
    • The inline error message at the table cell is not wrapped in 12.2 code lines and consequently, the table columns are expanded to the length of error messages if the error messages are long.
    • Mechanism to render table header tag from Row wise rendering(Row Bean) is not available in OAF
This Bundle Patch requires the R12.ATG_PF.C.Delta.5 Release Update Pack as a mandatory prerequisite.

Introducing the Oracle IoT Cloud by Attila Németh

clip_image002Oracle released its newest cloud product, the Oracle Internet of Things (IoT) Cloud Service, a couple of days ago. We have shared our experience with the product at the DOAG 2015 conference where we have also shown a showcase demonstrating the capabilities of the IoT Cloud Service. With this article we are starting a series of posts showing some key aspects of the product.

First of all, a brief introduction: what is IoT and what does the Oracle IoT Cloud Service provide?

More than a year has passed since we have built our first IoT demo. The article gives a good overview about what the Internet of Things is, how the architecture can be set up, etc. The retrospective at the end of our pilot project back then shows the key aspects for a successful adoption.

The high level view of the Oracle IoT Cloud Service is shown in the picture below.

Data from “things”– devices somewhere around the world – is sent to the Oracle IoT Cloud Service. This can be a direct connection if the device supports it or an indirect one in which case the device communicates with a gateway (possibly even over a proprietary protocol) and the gateway forwards the data to the IoT Cloud Service.

All these devices and their connections are managed by the product. Metadata attributes like device category or location can be added to devices to help find devices quickly (for example to locate a faulty device).

Data sent to the cloud can be either forwarded directly to backend systems (which can be either in the cloud or on premise) or it can be analysed in the cloud and the result of the analysis can be forwarded to other systems – for example to a BI System for producing more detailed reports or to an ERP system to keep track of the assets. clip_image001The News

Oracle Internet of Things Cloud Service is now available!  Oracle IoT Cloud Service is a secure and scalable platform to help organizations quickly build and deploy IoT applications. This new offering allows customers to gain new data-driven insights and drive actions from IoT by connecting, analyzing and integrating device data into business processes and applications like remote equipment monitoring and asset tracking.

    Value Proposition

The three core elements of IoT Cloud Service are – connect, analyze and integrate

         Connect -  Using IoT Cloud Service, users can collect data from any device in any market—reliably and securely. It abstracts away the technical challenges of connecting to devices/gateways and accelerates your time to market with an open, secure, and scalable platform.

         Analyze -  Gathering IoT data is pointless if customers can’t get value from it. IoT Cloud Service performs real-time analytics and enables big data and predictive analytics to deliver the enriched enterprise data that enables you to identify new services and improve customer satisfaction.

         Integrate -  IoT Cloud Service extends enterprise applications using open interfaces and pre-integrations with Oracle’s platform-as-a-service (PaaS), software-as-a-service (SaaS) and on-premise applications to reduce total cost of ownership for IoT data-enriched applications and processes.

What's NetBeans all about, what makes it special, why would anyone use NetBeans rather than something else, what are its key features, what distinguishes NetBeans from other tools, etc etc etc. Set aside those questions for a moment and take a look at this photo taken last week at JCrete:

That's a small part of the NetBeans community around the world, most of the above are members of the NetBeans Dream Team. And the enthusiasm that jumps out at you is why NetBeans is special. Yes, the Maven integration in NetBeans is awesome; yes, NetBeans makes working with Git a piece of cake; yes, if you're doing Java EE then NetBeans should really be your weapon of choice, etc etc etc. And NetBeans is also awesome when you build software on top of it.

But, beneath it all, is a group of fun people from all over the world—who have all kinds of different hobbies and interests, one of which is software development, which they all do in one way or another in/with/on NetBeans IDE.

Oracle Metadata Management 12.2.1.1 is Now Available

    $

    0

    Oracle Metadata Management

Oracle Metadata Management is essential to solving a wide variety of critical business and technical challenges around data governance and transparency. For example, “How are those report figures are calculated?” or “How does that change impact the data upstream?”.Oracle Metadata Management is built to answer these pressing questions for customers in a lightweight browser-based interface.

What is new in Oracle Metadata Management’s newest release

Oracle Metadata Management 12.2.1.1includes a number of key updates including:

    • Extended support for new cloud, big data and other technology with new harvesting bridges,
    • Enhanced search and findability function to manage objects within OMM, and
    • Quick and easy naming and renaming capabilities.
    • To read the entire list click here.A few highlights include:

Metadata Explorer – Designed for the business user

This release provides a major redesign of the Metadata Explorer User Interface on both the look and feel in addition to actual capabilities.

The new METADATA SEARCH/ BROWSE with FILTERING on any attributes and/or properties allows for the choice of result set displays as a classic Google like "LIST", or a new powerful "GRID" offering a spreadsheet like display of multiple attributes/properties at once. Attributes/properties can be individually selected, reordered, and sorted, offering a full metadata reporting solution. The results can of course be downloaded as CSV/Excel files.

METADATA EDITING is now possible at various levels.Numerous new fast and easy "in place" editing to Rename objects, Edit Descriptions, and more are available. The new Search/Browse GRID display also offers efficient editing with TABULAR EDITING of multiple objects at once such as Business Glossary Terms, Data Models Tables, or Table Columns. Also, BULK CHANGE of multiple objects at once is feasible, where a search can return multiple objects (that can then be selectively sub-setted) for which changes can be performed at once (e.g. Change the Security Threat Level to Orange to a set of tables at once)

Metadata Documentation - Capture Metadata through documentation

Metadata Documentation has been further developed. Previously, you could import a database model but could not enrich it with your own metadata. Now databases can be documented with extra metadata and any number of custom attributes.

    Harvesting Bridges

Oracle Enterprise Metadata Management 12.2.1.1 provides a whole set of new harvesting bridges. A few examples include:

    · Amazon Web Services AWS) RedShift Database import

    · Apache Cassandra import (including from DataStax Enterprise)

    · Apache Hadoop HiveQL DDL import (including from Cloudera, Hortonworks, MapR, etc.)

    · Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) (Repository Database) import bridge

    · Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) 2014 import bridge

Enhancements to existing bridges are also available. For instance:

There has been a major redesign of all DI/ETL/ELT bridges based upon a more universal DI meta-model which better supports the new generations of DI tools while reducing the volume of metadata. As a result, DI/ETL/ELT bridges now import much faster (some of them twice as fast), without losing any DI/ETL/ELT design or data flow lineage details.

Business Intelligence bridges have also seen improvements, specifically:

    · IBM Cognos Content Manager with PowerPlay Transformer import bridge has major improvements to better support lineage for cubes

    · MicroStrategy import bridge has major improvements for scalability and protection against broken/corrupted reports

    · Tableau import bridge has major improvements to better support massive amounts of database or file connections (popular in self service BI)

    Metadata Manager and Version Handling

This release of Oracle Enterprise Metadata Management sees major improvements in its Metadata Manager by way of performance and more efficient handling of versions themselves. The MODEL VERSION / CHANGE MANAGEMENT feature prevents the creation of unnecessary new versions of models if the source metadata (e.g. a database, or data model) has not changed since the last automatically scheduled metadata harvesting. This is new feature is achieved by taking advantage of the harvesting bridge’s new capabilities to compare the metadata of a newly imported model with a previously imported one in order to detect any change. The major benefit of this new feature is to dramatically reduce the disk space in the repository by automatically deleting unnecessary versions. CONFIGURATION / VERSION CHANGE MANAGEMENT capabilities now exist which offer a way to compare various versions of configurations.

Again, this is just a snippet of what’s new in this release of Oracle Metadata Management 12.2.1.1 but the added value is tremendous. We hope your journey with this solution in enlightening! For more information visit the home page here.
