8 Minute Apps (Easier Than 8 Minute Abs!)

0
0

Building mobile apps can be as challenging as using a certain 1990s cult workout routine in order to get into shape... that is to say, it can be pretty difficult!  IT departments often will be tasked with building and maintaining complex mobile applications, and therefore, other types of apps sometimes are de-prioritized. While widely used consumer-facing apps and upgrades/maintenance to back end infrastructure supporting those apps always will be a priority, simple apps serving useful but specific purposes for employees, or niche uses for consumers, sometimes can be overlooked. Yet for marketers, sales personnel, service reps, and others who need simple mobile solutions for their everyday business needs, this can be a problem.

What are business users to do? Should they wait patiently as their mobile programmers address other technical issues before focusing on line-of-business needs? Should they outsource their mobile projects to third party developers, or to agencies, (potentially) speeding up development time, while increasing costs? Or is there an easy and quick way to develop, in-house, the apps that business users require to make their jobs more efficient?

In the September-October issue of Oracle Magazine, Oracle Senior Product Manager Chris Muir answers this question and explains how the Oracle Mobile Application Accelerator (MAX), as part of Oracle Mobile Cloud Service (MCS), can help business users to build, test, and deploy simple mobile apps... in under eight minutes!

While we've previously discussed Oracle MAX, this is the first time that we've offered a tutorial of MAX on this blog with the business user in mind. In the article, Chris breaks down using the tool and building an app into five steps:

  1. Access Oracle Mobile Cloud Service (request a free trial here.)
  2. Once you have access, create two team member accounts in your Oracle Cloud domain "My Services" console. One of these accounts should be your "business developer/user," who will access Oracle MAX, and the other will be your "services developer," who will access Oracle MCS.
  3. Have your "services developer" build/complete and import any APIs into Oracle MCS that you wish to use in your app.  You'll need these APIs in order to access any data that you want to use within your app. In the article, Chris gives you a sample REST API that you can import and use to build a sample app. If you don't know how to import an API into Oracle MCS, no problem! Chris will show you how in a tutorial video embedded within the article.
  4. Watch and follow a second video link in the article that describes, step by step, how to build an app using Oracle MAX.
  5. Preview and test the app you just built following the instructions in the article's third video.
While it's likely that you won't use Oracle MAX to create the next Snapchat or Angry Birds, you very well might use it to create mobile company address books or internal reporting & analytics dashboards. To read the full article and learn how you can build a mobile app in under eight minutes (or as Chris times it out, in six minutes, twenty-five seconds), click here. Implementing an SFDC Upsert Operation in ICS by Ricardo Ferreira Leave a Comment

    0
    0

    clip_image002

    Introduction

While designing SOA services; especially those ones that represent operations around a business object, a common implementation pattern used is upsert. Upsert is an acronym that means the union of “update plus insert”. The idea behind is having a unique operation that decides which action to take – either update the existing record or insert a new one – based on information available in the message. Having one operation instead of two, makes the SOA service interface definition clearer and simpler.

Some SaaS applications offer upsert capabilities in their exposed services, and leveraging these capabilities can considerably decrease the amount of effort required while designing SOA services in an integration platform such as ICS. For instance, if you need to develop an upsert operation and the SaaS application does not have this functionality; you will have to implement that logic using some sort of conditional routing (see Content-Based Router pattern) or via multiple update and insert operations.

Salesforce.com (or SFDC for short) is one of those SaaS applications that offers built-in support for the upsert operation. This post will show how to leverage this support with ICS. Read the complete article here.

    Take Action on Dirty COW

    0
    0

I am sure you have heard about "Dirty COW" by now and may be trying to figure out if you need a patch or how to patch your Linux systems.

Dirty COW is a concurrency vulnerability in the Linux kernel’s memory subsystem that allows uncontrolled access to shared data. Specifically, this is a copy-on-write (COW) breakage that could allow an unprivileged user to gain write access to otherwise read-only memory mappings and potentially increase their privileges on the system.

This vulnerability was reported last week and it is recommended that you promptly implement fixes/patches to address it, to help ensure the rights/privileges you have in place to contain users’ read/write access are not altered.

Oracle has released updates to Oracle Linux to address Dirty COW. For those customers with an Oracle Premier Support subscription, this is a good time to use the Ksplice service – which enables you to access and apply these patches with zero downtime. Read more about it in Ksplice blog.

For customers without a Premier Support subscription, you will need to schedule downtime, apply the patches and restart your system. If you need to update your Oracle Linux kernel, you can find Oracle Support Document 2117117.1 (Master Note for Reference Index of CVE IDs and Errata: Oracle Linux and Oracle VM)  at this site.

New OA Framework 12.2.5 Update 7 Now Available

    0
    0

Web-based content in Oracle E-Business Suite 12 runs on the Oracle Application Framework (OAF or "OA Framework") user interface libraries and infrastructure.  Since the release of Oracle E-Business Suite 12.2 in 2013, we have released several cumulative updates to Oracle Application Framework to fix performance, security, and stability issues.

These updates are provided in cumulative Release Update Packs, and cumulative Bundle Patches that can be applied on top of the Release Update Pack. "Cumulative" means that the latest RUP or Bundle Patch contains everything released earlier.

The latest OAF update for EBS 12.2.5 is now available:

Screenshot EBS 12.2.5 OAF Bundle Patch 7

Where is the documentation for this update?

Instructions for installing this OAF Release Update Pack are here:

    Who should apply this patch?

All EBS 12.2.5 users should apply this patch.  Future OAF patches for EBS 12.2.5 will require this patch as a prerequisite.

    What's new in this update?

This bundle patch is cumulative: it includes all fixes released in previous EBS 12.2.5 bundle patches.

This latest bundle patch includes new fixes for the following critical issues:

    • The number values in Total column in the Budget table are partially hidden after applying some set of ATG and Mobile Application patches.
    • Failed to return to the base page after submitting the popup due to client side validation.
    • The rawtext with style class set to OraInstrcutionText under HideShowHeader with style class OraHeaderSub does not word-wrap.
    • Tables are not get rendered properly when scrolling when there are more than 300 records in the table.
    • Page/form image icons are not aligned on home page with the function name links in Navigator and Favorites regions in Chrome and Firefox browsers.

The Oracle On-Premises Agent (aka, Connectivity Agent) is necessary for Oracle ICS to communicate to on-premise resources without the need for firewall configurations or VPN. Additional details about the Agent can be found under New Agent Simplifies Cloud to On-premises Integration. The purpose of this A-Team blog is to give a consolidated and simplified flow of what is needed to install the agent and provide a foundation for other blogs (e.g., E-Business Suite Integration with Integration Cloud Service and DB Adapter). For the detailed online documentation for the On-Premises Agent, see Managing Agent Groups and the On-Premises Agent.

    On-Premises Agent Installation

The high-level steps for getting the On-Premises Agent installed on your production POD consist of two activities: 1. Create an Agent Group in the ICS console, and 2. Run the On-Premises Agent installer. Step 2 will be done on an on-premise Linux machine and the end result will be a lightweight WebLogic server instance that will be running on port 7001.
