Quick Tip: Add a Datafile to a TABLESPACE using SQL Developer

I’m lazy. I don’t like having to look up the directory name/structure when creating a new datafile. I don’t even like having to copy and paste it. So I avoid all of that, by using the CREATE LIKE dialog. View > DBA Add a connection. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Open. Sto... [Read More]

GoldenGate 12c Certified with E-Business Suite 12.2

0
0

Oracle GoldenGate provides real-time capture, transformation, routing, and delivery of database transactions across heterogeneous systems.  The GoldenGate Administrator's Guide shows six supported topologies for generic databases.  Oracle GoldenGate 12c is now certified for a subset of three of those methods in Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2 environments:

  1. Unidirectional (Reporting Instance):  From the E-Business Suite to a reporting instance
  2. Broadcast (Data Distribution): From the E-Business Suite to multiple external databases
  3. Consolidation (Data Warehouse/Mart/Store): From multiple sources, including the E-Business Suite, into a single external database
Three supported GoldenGate topologies in E-Business Suite environments

Procedures for replicating information from E-Business Suite 12.2 using GoldenGate to a secondary system are documented in:

Unidirectional reporting only

Certified Combinations

  • EBS 12.2.5 and later 12.2.x releases
  • Database 12.1.0.2 or 11.2.0.4
  • GoldenGate 12.1.2 and later 12.x releases

Replication to a Non-Editioned Target Database

EBS 12.2's Online Patching architecture has significant implications for data replication solutions implemented using Oracle GoldenGate. The Note above describes how to set up a unidirectional configuration of Oracle GoldenGate replication from an Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2 source database to a non-editioned target database.

Using GoldenGate with EBS 12.2 environments is significantly different from previous EBS releases.  If you are upgrading your GoldenGate + EBS 12.1 environment to EBS 12.2, and you must plan carefully for the new integration steps detailed in the documentation above.

Only Unidirectional replication for EBS

GoldenGate is an extremely powerful solution, and one of its most-interesting features is the ability to provide data replication in both directions.  In some generic scenarios, you can choose to make alterations to replicated data on the external instance and have those changes updated back in the source database.

Bidirectional replication is not permitted for E-Business Suite environments.  You can use GoldenGate to replicate EBS data to an external database, but you cannot move that altered data back into the EBS database.  GoldenGate's ability to read data in EBS databases is certified, but it must not be used to write to EBS databases.

"How" But Not "What"

GoldenGate is akin to a scalpel.  You're free to use it, but you must learn how to perform open heart surgery yourself.

The document above describes how to use GoldenGate to replicate data from the E-Business Suite to another system.  It doesn't provide any guidance about which database objects to replicate.

The E-Business Suite data model is vast, as you'd expect of something that has supports the integrated functioning of over 200 functional product modules.  GoldenGate is a development tool, and like all development tools, requires an expert-level understanding of the E-Business Suite data model for successful use.  Here's a good EBS data model resource:

Not Certified for EBS Migrations and Upgrades

GoldenGate is not certified for:

  • Upgrading E-Business Suite databases from one version to another
  • Migrating E-Business Suite databases from one operating system platform to another

Why not?  Oracle GoldenGate does not currently support the replication of all of the datatypes that are used by the E-Business Suite.  In addition, GoldenGate relies upon tables with primary keys for replication. EBS has over 10,000 tables without primary keys.  That means that attempting to use GoldenGate to migrate or upgrade an entire E-Business Suite database requires a combination of GoldenGate and other manual steps to preserve referential integrity.

Oracle does not currently have any plans to produce a certified or automated method of using GoldenGate for E-Business Suite upgrades or platform migrations.

EBS 12.2 customers should use our documented procedures for upgrades and migrations.

Windows 10 logoMicrosoft is releasing a major update to Windows 10 called the Windows 10 Creators Update:

This new update includes a number of features specifically aimed at enterprise and business users.  These include:

  • Windows Security Center
  • Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection
  • In-place UEFI conversion

Differential downloads for Windows 10

Microsoft is also changing their packaging of major Windows 10 updates from full operating system downloads to smaller, incremental downloads.  This new delivery method is called the Unified Update Platform (UUP).

The new UUP delivery method will provide only the Windows 10 patches that have been released since the last time a desktop was updated.

Will this work with EBS?

Yes.  Windows 10 is certified with all current EBS releases, including EBS 12.1 and 12.2. This existing certification is expected to apply to the upcoming Windows 10 Creators Update release.

The Unified Update Platform is not expected to require an additional certification.  Microsoft emphasizes that nothing changes with Windows 10 itself -- this only modifies the way that Win10 patches are delivered:

It’s important to note that with UUP, nothing will look or behave differently on the surface, UUP is all underlying platform and service optimization that happens behind the scenes.

EMO Trans “Quantum Leap Over the Competition” with Oracle Cloud

0
0

EMO Trans is a global shipping and logistics company in business for more than 50 years, with offices in 17 countries on 5 continents. As established as they are, you have to stay on your toes. As Andy Grove famously said in his book, “Only the Paranoid Survive” EMO Trans knew they faced potential disruptions from small startups in this new digital age. As a strong Oracle customer, EMO Trans has been able to stay ahead with the Oracle Cloud, IaaS and PaaS solutions and infrastructure. That includes Oracle Docs, WebCenter, and Mobile Cloud Service.

Marco Rohrer, EMO Trans President and CEO notes “Five years from now most of our business will be done through mobility tools. We are preparing for that now.” Adding to this, Andy Richardson, EMO’s executive director of IT: “It’s mobile out of the gate. We can easily bring the information we need into mobile apps with Oracle Mobile Cloud Service. We can push technology to clients’ mobile devices. We can say, ‘There’s a typhoon in the East China Sea. Your shipment’s going to be four days late’ well in advance of the problem, and we can service our customers much more efficiently because of it.”

I’ve highlighted a few of the mobile quotes but you should read the full detailed Forbes story here, detailing how an established brand, can take on new digital disrupters with a cloud & mobile strategy and Oracle as their key technology partners. As Rohrer said: "EMO Trans doesn’t just want to keep up. It is using the cloud to be a leader in customer experience and “take a quantum leap over the competition”

Please share these customer stories with your friends and colleagues, and don't forget to follow us @OracleMobile and to join the Oracle Mobile conversation on LinkedIn.

The Evolution and Future of Analytics

0
0

We live in a world where things around us are ever changing.

Measurement metrics are just in time, predictive and need a lot of augmented intelligence; however, we're developing more complex mind analytics when it comes to buying patterns.

This new type of analytics can give us insight into how the customer feels and what he or she experiences.

Thus, the availability of smart information will emerge.

In the future, you may walk into a store and find one or all of the below, which can be built as solutions:

a) A robot welcoming you and taking over to interact with you using connected back end and analytics.

b) Natural language or human analytics that can automatically read your mood to ultimately improve customer satisfaction.

c) Historical data about you as a customer to help up sell or cross sell products based on your interests.

d) Automatic analysis about what you're doing to bring near real-time context of data; this will enable the retailer to build a mobile based intuitive presence or no billing architecture.

e) A personal assistant model to better serve you as a customer, empowering retailers to provide solutions to unsure customers.

f) IN product or things analytics to provide information about the product that makes things intelligent through RFID, intelligent tagging, sensors etc.

g) Discounts/coupons based on mixing historical buying patterns; post purchase analytics.

h) Interactive dashboards that make augmented decisions about a few areas based on reviews; this would take expert reviews, phone calls, product management and more into account.

i) A store platform of grammar, syntax, semantics and data science grammar to create recurring patterns, challenges and build new solutions which are continuous in nature.

Based on the above, let's dive into different types of analytics available on the market. We'll look at how they will blend and intersect to develop more augmented applications for the future.

1) Historical Analytics

This is the traditional analytics of business intelligence focused on analyzing stored data and reporting. We would build repositories and create analyses and dashboards for historical data. Solutions would include Oracle Business Intelligence.

2) Current Analytics
Here the analytics is measurement over current process. For example, we would measure the effectiveness of a process as it happens (business activity monitoring) using a stream that processes arriving data and analyzes it in real-time.

3) Enterprise Performance Management

Here the objective is to focus on projections/what-if analysis with the current data and make projections for the future. An example would be a Hyperion or an EPM based solution which could help derive and plan reporting as projections. EPM today is also available as a cloud service.

4) Predictive Analytics

With the Big Data market growing, and with unstructured data adding parameters of velocity, variety and volume, the data world is moving on to more predictive analytics, with a blended mix of data. There is one world of data in the hadoop world and another in the classical data warehouse world. We can mix and match and do Big Data analytics.

Predictive analytics is more of a compass-like decision making with data analysis patterns. Oracle has an end-to-end Big Data solution from DW, Hadoop and analytics that can help develop predictive solutions.

5) Prescriptive Analytics
To extend the predictive analytics, we would also develop systems to make decisions once we have the prediction; i.e. sending emails and connecting systems as the patterns are detected. This is the basics of building more heuristics systems to make decisions about arrived patterns.

6) Machine Analytics
Every device and machine is going to generate data. Machine analytics is a blended form of data that can be embedded into the standard source to enhance and improve the overall data pattern. Oracle provides IOT CS as a solution to connect, analyze and integrate data from various machines and enrich new applications like  ERP, CRM and more.

7) AI Based Analytics

AI or deep learning is the next gen analytics pattern where we can train the systems or any entity to think and then embed the analytics pattern in the solution.

8) IORT / Robotics Analytics
With Robots / Bots and personal assistant complementing solutions, there are a lot of patterns of thinking and execution distributed to multiple systems. IORT or robotics analytics is a new branch that will focus on how we can analyze the pattern from semi thinking devices.

9) Data Science as Service
A new branch where the analysis goes deeper in terms of algorithms and storage and is also more domain-driven. Even though data science is used as one branch in analytics, you will see a lot of analytics development. Data scientists who specialize in identifying patterns will go a long way to build patterns that are more replicable.

10) Integrated Analytics
In the future, we can form an integrated view of the above. This could be ONE IDE and you would derive patterns based on business need and use case. Today, we have a fragmented set of tools to manage analytics and it would slowly get integrated into one view.

Oracle has solution at different levels; most of them are also available as a cloud service (Software as a Service, Platform as a Service).

It's imperative to build the right mix of solutions for the right problem and integrate these solutions.

  • Historical perspective you would use --> Business Intelligence
  • Current processing  -->  Streaming (event processing) and Business Activity Monitoring
  • Enterprise performance management  --> Hyperion
  • Heterogeneous source of data and also large analysis of data --> Big Data Solution
  • Predictive and Prescriptive analytics --> R language and Advanced Analytics
  • Machine related --> IOT Solutions and Cloud Service

SOA Messaging Reliability through JMS and Oracle Service Bus by Sebastian Lik-Keung Ma

clip_image002

This article describes the design of a reliable messaging solution for SOA integration projects. It uses concepts like canonical schemas, durable POJO (Plain Old Java Object) messages, publish-subscribe and error handling within the Oracle SOA, Oracle Service Bus and WebLogic JMS infrastructure.

The JMS Message

For consistency, the type of message we are publishing will be based on a canonical schema. Typically, you would have a JDeveloper project that stores the canonical schemas used by all your custom applications. These schemas could be version-controlled, e.g. by Subversion, as well as deployed to MDS as a SOA bundle. Sample JDeveloper project containing canonical schemas shown below.

In this article, we will use the employeeWorkSchedule schema as our message type.

Publishing JMS message from ADF Java application

We publish our message to JMS from ADF applications. To simplify the process of using Java to construct message objects based on our XSD canonical schema, we use the JAXB (Java Architecture for XML Binding) tool from JDeveloper.

As shown in Figure 2a below, select the XSD file, right-click and select “Generate JAXB 2.0 Content Model”. Read the complete article here.

What those extra Healthcare flags on Oracle SOA 12.1.3.0.5 and 12.2.1 update are for? by Bruno Neves Alves

0
0

Whilst upgrading to 12.1.3.05 I came across the following Post Installation actions at the READ.ME doc of the 22524811 patch:
"4 Post-Installation Instructions"
2. Add em property : hc.jmsAndDBSameTxn with 'true' value.
3. Following Healthcare Server properties are needed:
        - hc.sequencedEndpoints
+ ALL,, - comman separate value
+ Any endpoints after ALL will not be sequenced.
+ In this example, will have sequcing turned off. will have sequencing turned off.
Note for Bug 20029769:
hc.HCMode (true/false, default false) - need to set to true
At the customer, we intended to promote the upgrade to the actual production environment and, because of this, it required further validation of the impacts of such upgrade could bring.
Since the description was not clear enough and I could not find information anywhere else, I raised a service request at Oracle Support for further clarification.
First, I would like to thanks Silviu from Oracle Support for his help and support he have been providing me for the last few years :)
And here are the conclusions of the service request and clarification of the new flags usage:
hc.jmsAndDBSameTxn -  if true, committing to the JMS for customer JMS will be on the same transaction as database.  If database is rolled back, then the message will not be committed to JMS as well. (I'm waiting additional clarification for this point and will add it here once I have it). Read the complete article here.

Which Oracle Web Tier Utilities Patchsets Can Be Used with EBS 12.2?

0
0
The Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2's Rapid Install delivers three Fusion Middleware (FMW) components:
  1. Oracle WebLogic Server 10.3.6 (this is the "$FMW_HOME")
  2. Oracle WebTier Utilities 11.1.1.6
  3. Oracle Common Home (Part of Oracle WebTier Utilities 11.1.1.6)
The fifth-level digit in the Oracle Web Tier Utilities version is not relevant to E-Business Suite certifications.  In other words, you can apply any Oracle Web Tier Utilities patchsets that have been certified at the fourth-level digit.

For example, we have certified EBS 12.2 with Web Tier Utilities 11.1.1.9. All of the following Web Tier Utilities patchsets will work with EBS 12.2:

  • Oracle Web Tier Utilities 11.1.1.9.0 (documented certification)
  • Oracle Web Tier Utilities 11.1.1.9.161225 (Fictitious future Bundle Patch for example purposes only-- this has not been released

This is sometimes shown in our documentation in either of the following ways:

  • Oracle Web Tier Utilities 11.1.1.9
  • Oracle Web Tier Utilities 11.1.1.9.x

The absence of a fifth-digit or the presence of an 'X' in the fifth digit's place means any fifth-digit level updates may be applied to an EBS 12.2 environment without requiring a new certification.  This applies to all environments, including test and production environments.

What is NOT certified

The Oracle Web Tier Downloads page has several listings for other things, including:

  • Oracle Web Tier 12cR2
  • Oracle HTTP Server 12.2.1.2
  • Oracle HTTP Server 12.2.1.1
  • Oracle HTTP Server 12.2.1

These have not been certified with Oracle E-Business Suite 12.2.  You should not apply these to your EBS 12.2 environment.
