Can I Customize EBS on Oracle Cloud?

$
0
0

You can customize your Oracle E-Business Suite environment running on Oracle Cloud in the same way as you are used to doing on-premises. In addition, you can migrate your Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2 or 12.1 customizations to Oracle Cloud, whether you are performing a lift and shift either to Oracle Compute Cloud Service only, or to Oracle Compute Cloud Service and Oracle Database Cloud Service.

When customizing an Oracle E-Business Suite instance running on Oracle Cloud or on-premises, you must always follow our development guidelines. Be aware that there are differences in the customization standards between Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2 and Release 12.1.

For the official guidelines and more information on Release 12.2 customizations, refer to the following documents:

For the official guidelines and more information on Release 12.1 customizations, refer to the following document:

The Oracle E-Business Suite Development Tools image, available from the Oracle Cloud Marketplace, can be used to provision an Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2 or 12.1 development environment in the Oracle Compute Cloud Service. This environment is then available for creating and managing customizations.

You may optionally choose to use the Oracle Application Management Suite to manage and apply custom patches to an Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2 or Release 12.1 environment running either on-premises and in the Oracle Cloud.

Note that the following support implications apply to customizations when running Oracle E-Business Suite either on Oracle Cloud or on-premises:

Oracle JET at Transfer Solutions (Part 2)

I attended an excellent session about Oracle JET by Lai Ho Yueng and Maresa Bunschoten, from Transfer Solutions in Leerdam in the Netherlands. Transfer Solutions, an Oracle partner, regularly hosts free knowledge sharing sessions. Some time ago, I was invited to talk about Oracle JET (as described here in part 1) and in the meantime developers at Transfer Solutions are using Oracle JET to create mobile and web products for their customers.

Before the break, Maresa did a thorough overview of Oracle JET and all that it provides:

She started by talking about the difference between web, mobile, and hybrid development and then discussed how Oracle JET covers all of these paradigms from the same codebase.

After the break, Lai showed an application that makes use of offline features in Oracle JET, based on a real application in production at a client site.

And it was clear that NetBeans IDE was a handy tool to use for JavaScript development, especially the integration with the Chrome browser, demonstrated by Lai.

It was a good event, with around 30 attendees. Clearly the message of Oracle JET as a toolkit for mobile and web development is spreading!

Build Your Nest When Picking With New WMS Functionality

$

0
For you Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) license plate number (LPN) people, we bet you have some business processes that require material to be stored in nested LPNs. To wit, finished goods would be stored on a pallet, the pallet would contain boxes, and the pallet would be the outermost LPN while the boxes would be the nested LPNs. In the WMS product, prior to 12.2.5, you could only pick from innermost LPN which would require the nested LPN to first be unpacked for the material to be picked from it. That leads us to exciting news!

In 12.2.5 warehouse pickers now have the flexibility to pick materials packed in multiple levels of LPNs (inner LPNs or the outer parent LPN) for any picking task, if the total quantity inside the nested LPN is within the tolerance limit. The mobile picking page UI can be used to select and load any material packed in multiple levels of LPNs for an independent or bulk task. The LPN list of values in the pick load page will display inner LPNs as well as the outer LPN for each nested LPN hierarchy. There is no change in the allocation logic to pick from the parent LPNs i.e. for LPN allocation modes, the allocation engine will split the task and allocate innermost LPNs only.

Review 12.2.5 Nested LPN Pick - Feature Overview (Doc ID 2205427.1) for more details on this new functionality.

This is a a great new feature for you warehouse pickers! Check it out and enjoy your nesting.

Process Cloud Service – Web Form Design Approaches by Antonis Antoniou

Oracle Process Cloud Service uses a standards-based technology called "Web Forms" for defining the user interface in business processes. It's based on standards such as XHTML, CSS and JavaScript and allows business analysts and developers to create an end-user interface by just using the browser.
There are three approaches that can be employed when designing web forms:
Form-First: You can follow a "Form-First" approach where you create the form first before any data elements are defined and you let PCS by just drag and dropping components from the component palette to the page. Oracle PCS will automatically generate the schema that defines the data required by the web form.

The schema that is automatically generated by Oracle PCS is based on the web form controls added to the web form and can be located under "Business Types" section.

When you assign the web form to a human task activity, the schema generated by Oracle PCS will automatically be used to define the human task data structure.
Data-First: A data-first approach implies a bottom-up approach where you create a web form based on data sources or business objects by just drag and dropping the objects on the form to create controls.

I'm going to DevNexus this week. There'll be a NetBeans booth and several NetBeans community members in attendance, drop by and come and chat about NetBeans, Apache, etc!

Also, I'll be talking about Oracle JET:

https://devnexus.com/s/devnexus2017/presentations/17974

I'll take an AngularJS/Ionic application Matt Raible created and talked about recently at Jfokus and I'll show how that application looks and how it is structured when created via Oracle JET. I'll discuss the similarities/differences and advantages/disadvantages. Here's the repo where I am working on this:

https://github.com/GeertjanWielenga/jet-hello-world

So, if you're exploring alternatives to AngularJS/Ionic, come to the session and see the approach you can take with JET to create web or mobile applications. The pic on the left is Matt's AngularJS/Ionic app, on the right is my JET app:

A New Wave of Mobile Engagement

$
0
0

Recently, we talked about the ascension of chatbots and how to engage mobile customers in both a timely and personalized, manner.  However, we have yet to address why either of these topics is, and will continue to be, a driving success factor for both enterprises and small businesses. To say that these advancements are a result of living in a Mobile-First world would be only a partial answer.  Mobile phones have been around for decades, and yet only very recently have we started to use chatbots and advanced customer engagement techniques like location targeting in a business setting.  What's changed?  The answer is that the scale and the technology that surrounds the mobile ecosystem have advanced far enough that its now beneficial, and even necessary, to use these new technologies in order to gain a competitive advantage and achieve a positive ROI.  We just published an iPaper that discusses this topic in detail and we encourage you to read it.  A brief abstract of the paper is below:

Abstract:

By 2021, there will be 10 billion connected mobile devices.  That will be enough for every man, woman, and child on Earth to have at least one. This explosive mobile growth has created a huge demand for mobile services, and developers have created tons of apps to fill these service needs.  As a result, mobile users are now accustomed to accessing services on-demand, from transferring money, to ordering an Uber, to submitting a vacation request through their company's HR app.

As the on-demand economy scales, customers expect fast and accurate service from their apps.  If they don't get it, they simply switch to another app.  In this very large, low-entry, hyper-competitive, on-demand market, both small and enterprise-level businesses fight for customer share-of-mind and wallet.  Often, the only way these businesses can remain relevant is to create timely and useful "mobile moments" (real-time, intent-driven interactions that require only a glance—yet deliver information users can consume and take action on immediately), either by providing a user with the quickest and most accurate way to consume information (i.e. responding to a query in-app with a chatbot instead of linking to an answer), or by providing a personalized response based on a user's actions (i.e. using location targeting to create a relevant, engaging offer when a user walks into a store.)  If certain businesses don't use these new mobile technologies to create and capitalize on mobile moments, they risk losing out to competitors who will gladly step in to fill any on-demand service gap.

What's made it so easy to compete?  Mobile development, testing, and deployment technology has become more powerful and easier to use.  With low code and even no-code interfaces, these mobile technologies can help companies build, test, and deploy chatbots, codeless apps, or microsites in minutes using nothing but a browser. These mobile platforms also are built with open standards and with API-First development in mind so creating more robust applications and connecting them to system back-ends becomes easy.  In addition, Analytics technology has matured so that businesses now can engage with mobile users on a personal level.  Understanding why customers have gone quiet within an app, targeting them, and re-engaging them with personalized information has allowed SMBs to mine the long tail efficiently and to compete alongside enterprises for additional customer share and profit. Increased competition makes using new mobile technologies even more of a necessity for any business that wants to stay ahead.

Download and read this iPaper, follow us @OracleMobile, and to join the conversation on LinkedIn.
