Congratulations to the new Java Champions Marc Hoffmann!
Marc has over 10 years of Java programming experience and is the leading expert in bytecode coverage analysis. Since 2008, he has been working on Java-based railway control systems atmtrail in Berne, Switzerland. He is also the lead contributor to the JaCoCo Code Coverage engine.
Hoffmann started the EclEmma project in 2006 and authored the initial releases. EclEmma is a free Java code coverage tool for Eclipse, available under the Eclipse Public License. It brings code coverage analysis directly into the Eclipse workbench. EclEmma won the "Best Open Source Eclipse-Based Developer Tool“ - Community Award in 2008. In 2009, Hoffmann also started the JaCoCo project to create a modern code coverage backend for EclEmma and other tools. JaCoCo is now widely used as code coverage engine, including for OpenJDK 8 development. You can view his presentation,Code Coverage Revised: EclEmma on JaCoCo [PDF], from EclipseCon 2012.
Hoffmann is a well-known conference speaker on the topic of Code Coverage Analysis. Heinz Kabutz, founder of the JCrete unconference, said, "Marc has been a big supporter of the JCrete unconference, attending all four years so far and always contributing more than he has consumed."
