Mindi driving the lunch bus
Wow! The ShipIt in MDC was a tremendous success!! What’s a ShipIt?Basically you can work on whatever you want, for 24 hours, as long as it either improves your product or improves your team’s productivity.
We ended up with 11 teams and 45 attendees participating in our first ever ShipIt in MDC. They worked hard and we made sure they were well-fed. Here's the lunch bus that brought in sandwiches on Thursday!
The teams presented a variety of improvements, beneficial to internal processes as well as Oracle products. While the crowd cheered, each team presented their idea in exactly 3 minutes and then had 2 minutes to answer questions from the judges and fellow participants. After an exciting round of voting using the allocated poker chips, the winners are…
3rd Place – Austin Powers- They presented a cloud based portal for developers. It will search across multiple sources and use tags and curation to present only the relevant content to developers. As everyone knows, the answer is often out there. Finding it is the hard part!

2nd Place– Roller–This team demo’d Theme Roller, an Apex-based tool that allows users to easily customize the UI without having to know anything about css. It provides an improved color picker with complementary theme colors as well as transparency support. Additionally, it includes an all important undo/redo capability.
1st Place – Decoders–This teamcreated a tool that will greatly reduce the time developers need to QA code changes. It provides the ability to do the best QA for the exact set of LRGs to run instead of having to run the full automated set or manually QA, both very time consuming. It shows the percent of coverage and can be extended to other apps.
The winning teams were each awarded some fun prizes and the Decoders will have the giant, bragging-rights-worthy trophy on display until it is passed to the next ShipIt winning team. You can tell how much the Decoder Team loved that!
All participants enjoyed a fun social party after the awards ceremony and most likely appreciated a full night’s sleep after such an intense 24 hours.
In addition to these winners, a couple select teams who had improvements specific to the Guadalajaraoffice will be invited to a future managers meeting to showcase their great ideas, including onboarding new hires and providing a simple way to communicate with facilities. Both ideas can easily be extended to other campuses but hopefully will take flight in MDC.
We can’t wait to see what this amazing talent produces at the next ShipIt in 6 months!!
