IDC recently updated their white paper on Oracle Solaris and how it fits into both Oracle's OS strategy and into the general industry OS landscape. They highlight how Oracle Solaris 11 is optimized for cloud computing, with unique virtualization, scaling, and provisioning capabilities. One thing the author notes is Oracle's increased investment in Solaris since the Sun acquisition, and how this has translated to a documented corresponding increase in overall customer confidence.
The paper includes a case study of a customer that upgraded to Oracle Solaris 11 immediately after its release, to take advantage of new features such as built-in file system encryption.
