Sending Out Voice Notifications

One of the critical components of OEM is the ability to send notifications when a metric hits a certain threshold.  If you are running the OEM Management Server (MS) Components on a UNIX/Linux based system then it's a trivial task to send out email notifications because MS will use the built-in mail server to send the email notification.  We are going to focus on the non-trivial tasks of actually calling the staff member thats on duty and telling him that one of the servers hit a critical metric.

Setting this up will consists of a number of blog entries.  But, here's my outline:

1) Configure Asterisk (an Open Source VoIP Server) to route calls to the person on duty

2) Configure a Text to Audio module within Asterisk, which will take the metric alert messages sent by OEM and turn them into Audio messages that will be played when the staff member is called.

3) Connect OEM to Asterisk

4) Perform Some testing

5) Provide you with the code and the Asterisk Virtual Box Image that I used to create this.

 Let the fun began!
