Cloud adoption has been rising in recent years. Based on a survey conducted with Oracle users, 38% of the respondents already have implemented a private cloud architecture. Many great benefitsof cloud computing--such as agility, scalability, cost savings--drive this fast adoption. This highly popular trend makes it critical for data integration technologies to expand their support to cloud architectures. Thus, it is one of the 5 new requirements for data integration technologies, which we explained in a recent white paper. And today I’d like to talk about data integration for cloud environments.

How do you keep your cloud systems connected with your other enterprise systems? And how do you use data integration and replication solutions to enable successful cloud computing initiatives? We have discussed this topic in a recent white paper “Demystifying Data Integration for Cloud”. Here are the few tips and reminders from this paper.

  • Start with a smooth consolidation:While system consolidation is a key step to private cloud architectures it does not have to be a disruptive process for your organization. You can leverage Oracle GoldenGate’s real-time data replication to consolidate your databases without database downtime. With Oracle Data Integrator, and its built-in data quality processes, you can ensure that high-quality data is consolidated into the cloud environment.
  • Make sure data infrastructure is reliable and highly available: In addition to enabling continuous operations during the migration to cloud, you need to choose or build a cloud environment that has minimal unplanned and planned downtime. Using reliable real-time data replication solution like Oracle GoldenGate delivers a highly-available cloud computing infrastructure.
  • Build shared data services infrastructure :For platform-as-a-service (PaaS) deployment as part of private cloud,  shared application services infrastructure help withachieving agility, fast time-to-market, and efficient use of resources.Data access, transformation, and data quality related services are also part of this integration platform and enable these benefits. Oracle Data Integrator offers complete set of functional services for PaaS deployments.
  • Integrate non-cloudsystems with private cloud:To avoid building more data silos and to support business operations share the data in your stand-alone enterprise systems with the new private cloud environment.Oracle GoldenGate's real-time data integration and replication capabilities enable data synchronization in a timely manner.
  • Connect non-cloud systems with public cloud:If you have applications on public clouds, you may need to access and share their data with your enterprise systems. For public cloud architectures, Oracle offers a complete and extensible set of integration options.Oracle Cloud enables you to move data through Oracle SOA Suite to Oracle Messaging Cloud Service.Oracle SOA Suite uses Oracle Data Integrator’s data access, transformation and loading capabilities that can be exposed as a service. Oracle Data Integrator is also flexible to support other public cloud offerings. For example, it supports a knowledge module for Salesforce.com—now available on AppExchange.

I invite you to explore more on these capabilities by reading our Demystifying Data Integration for Cloud white paper and other cloud related resourcesIn my next blog I will discuss the convergence of data access and availability and how they translate into the 3rd requirement for continuous data access.
