OTN is Giving Away a US Navy Aircraft Carrier!

Imagine how cool you will look piloting this baby down the inter-coastal, waving at all those girls in your high school class who were so certain you'd never amount to much. How do you like me now, eh?

We are going to give one to each each sysadmin who attends the Virtual OTN Sysadmin Day scheduled for January 15. All we need is approval by the US Department of Defense. We're having very direct and constructive discussions, and have been making dramatic progress. They are sending a Navy Seal team to pick us up. I'm assuming they'll take us directly to the Pentagon for face-to-face discussions.

This temporary delay with the DoD means that if you register for OTN's first EVER Virtual Sysadmin Day, you can't be 100% certain that you'll get your very own fully crewed US Navy Aircraft Carrier (aircraft not included), but you can at least rest assured that you'll be able to get your hands on Oracle Solaris, Oracle Linux, and Oracle VM with nine of the best hands-on labs around.

OTN's First EVER Virtual Sysadmin Day

As you may already know, our physical Sysadmin Days have been very popular. We've held them in several cities so far:

... but the problem with that, of course, is that you have to travel. So we decided to go virtual. Same hands-on labs on Oracle Solaris and Oracle Linux, plus three new labs about Oracle VM:

  • Deploying Infrastructure as a Service
  • How to Virtualize and Deploy Oracle Applications Using Oracle VM Templates
  • Creating an x86 Enterprise Cloud Infrastructure

Details here.

The event is free, but we do need you to register. And there's a little homework involved. Nothing too complicated, we just expect you to have VirtualBox installed and the proper images already imported before we begin class. You'll see the instructions after you register

The first one is on Tuesday, January 15 at 9:00 am Pacific Time. (Time converter here.) We have another one scheduled for January 28 at a time that's more convenient for our friends and allies in Europe, Asia Minor, and Africa. And if we can't get an OK on the aircraft carrier, we're going to insist on something that launches depth charges. I've always wanted to play with depth charges.
