Of course, you can still run custom applications on Oracle Application Server…but at what cost? By switching to Oracle WebLogic Server, you can gain rich new functionality, get unparalleled performance and lower your support costs in the process.

  1. Reduce Operational Costs, while Improving Service Levels: Although Oracle Internet Application Server (iAS) continues to be maintained and updated according to Oracle standard lifetime support policies, Oracle iAS layered products such as Oracle Forms, and Reports have been certified with the WebLogic Server infrastructure. Converged with key capabilities of Oracle Containers for J2EE (OC4J), the full portfolio of Oracle Internet Application Server layered products, and the end-to-end diagnostics and management with the Enterprise Manager Diagnostics Pack, all designed to squeeze down operational costs while improving service levels as well as to enable Oracle customer investments in Oracle Internet Application Server to move forward seamlessly to Oracle WebLogic Server.
  2. WebLogic Suite Includes the Foundational Technologies: In addition, WebLogic Suite includes foundational technologies beyond Java EE such as Oracle Forms, Oracle Reports, Oracle Discoverer and Oracle Portal that are critical for applications such as Oracle E-Business Suite.
  3. Virtualize your Forms and Reports Applications: Not only that, starting September 2012, Oracle Forms and Reports support is included in Oracle Virtual Assembly Builder (OVAB). OVAB makes it possible for administrators to quickly configure and provision entire multi-tier enterprise applications onto virtualized and cloud environments. OVAB provides a framework for automatically capturing the configuration of existing software components and packaging them as self-contained software appliance, composing configurable blueprints of multi-tier application topologies called assemblies and provisioning those onto a pool of virtual and cloud resources with minimal user input. OVAB now contains a new plug-in for Oracle Forms and Oracle Reports. The Forms and Reports OVAB plug-ins/extensions provide the ability to examine Forms and Reports applications and configurations to create and deploy assemblies containing Forms and Reports appliances. Hence, migrating your forms and reports applications to WebLogic enables you to virtualize your existing forms and reports applications and even run these on a cloud platform.
  4. Take Advantage of State of the Art Migration Tooling: To enable a systematic and manageable upgrade, automated tooling is provided for layered products like Oracle Forms and Reports.
